Erin Vickery Named Roswell Neighbor Female Athlete of the Week

Female Athlete of the Week
Erin Vickery – ROSWELL
By Ryan Peck - rpeck@neighbornewspapers.com

Roswell High School’s Erin Vickery has been a household name on the softball diamond since she was a freshman in 2008.

More than halfway through her senior season, Vickery continues to provide constant reminders of her exceptional ability on a game-by-game basis.

The Lady Hornets’ catcher leads the team in virtually every offensive category, including home runs (3), runs batted in (16) and slugging percentage (.935). On Aug. 25, Vickery cemented her spot in the Roswell record books by smashing her eighth career long ball, a school record.

“She’s one of the best high school hitters I’ve ever seen. She’s very poised at the plate and her numbers reflect that,” Roswell coach Matt Lawless said of Vickery, a team captain and three-time all-region selection.

“She waits to get her pitch,” Lawless continued. “She goes up [to the plate] with a game plan, wanting to hit and knowing what she has to do.”

In addition to her offensive exploits, Vickery has gunned down a high percentage of potential base stealers behind the plate. Her well-rounded game and solid academic reputation has made Vickery a sought-after college prospect.

“She’s all you can ask for as a teacher and a coach,” said Lawless. “She’s definitely gonna play [college softball]. Her name’s out there, people know about her.”
